East vs. West Diamond Traditions

Posted by Manuel Diaz on

China is the second biggest diamond consuming market after, of course, the United States. Experts say that by 2016 the two countries will switch places with China becoming the biggest diamond market.

In the United States bridal jewelry makes up the majority of all diamond sales, whereas in China they buy less bridal jewelry.  The people of Hong Kong are very inspired by western-culture and that is a reason why diamonds are so prevalent in Hong Kong. One of the main differences between the two countries is that in China smaller diamonds are the norm and are preferred over larger diamonds. Meanwhile in America women prefer larger diamonds and wear larger diamonds on an everyday basis. What do you think about the differences between East and West diamond traditions?
